Barrow, Alaska (July 24, 2020) – The North Slope Borough (NSB) recently informed UIC of its investigation regarding a potential COVID-19 exposed individual outside of UIC’s headquarters in Barrow. The result of the NSB Public Health investigation was a determination that there was no involvement or exposure associated with UIC’s office building or employees and that the incident was restricted to an individual who became ill outside of the building and who, after calling 911, was provided assistance by NSB first responders and the police.
Although the individual never entered the UIC building, out of an abundance of caution, UIC’s office and the building common areas were briefly closed for a deep cleaning and are again open for appropriate use, following COVID guidelines. UIC’s office staff located in the building have also returned to work in the building as appropriate.
UIC remains committed to the safety of all of our shareholders, employees, and stakeholders. UIC’s team is doing what it can to support everyone’s efforts to address the current challenges we are facing and greatly appreciates the North Slope Borough’s prompt investigation and coordination regarding this incident.
