20 Scholarships Available for Alaskans to Study in China

JUNEAU –  Governor Walker announces that 20 scholarships have been made available for Alaskans to study abroad in China through the Chinese Consulate. Recipients will explore higher education through a variety of academic programs in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, law, economics, management, education, liberal arts, philosophy, history, and fine arts.

China has a long-standing relationship with the Last Frontier as the state’s biggest trade partner. China is also the biggest supporter of Alaska’s fishermen. In 2016, the nation bought over $625 million worth of Alaska seafood, more than any other country. Alaska’s fishing industry has a well-established trade relationship with China.

“Alaska maintains a close relationship with China, our number one trade partner,” said Governor Walker. “These 20 scholarships allow us to continue building a Stronger Alaska by fostering relationships through cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and learning opportunities.”

Scholarships from the Chinese Consulate include tuition, accommodation, stipend and medical insurance. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2018. Interested parties can find additional information and applications here:  https://gov.alaska.gov/2018-2019-chinese-scholarship/
